Bird ringing

we went to a bird ringing demonstration at our local nature reserve last weekend. Some friends of ours had done it before and said it was such a fab experience so I was looking for a chance to watch it.

It did mean a very early morning, but A was very excited to go so how can you resist? M decided to stay in bed!

It ended up quite quiet in terms of the birds that the ringing group caught but as it was a first for us it was all fab to see. Amazing to see the birds so close up and we also got an opportunity to hold and release them (I let go 2 blue tits *beam*). Was also fab as a local HE’er was there with her daughter who is the same age as A and they seemed to get on rather well.

We also then found out about another demonstration not too far away the next morning and A wanted to go again so no sleep in for me! M decided to come along this time and managed to release a chaffinch – I was really pleased for him as he looked like he didn’t want to try and then did right at the end.

The sunday morning as much more productive in terms of what was caught and we even got a close up of a rather loud jay!

A fab couple of days and such a fab bird ringing group who made the kids so welcome and included them in all they were doing.
